Sabrina Maniscalco

CEO and co-founder

Sabrina is a Professor of Quantum Information, Computing and Logic at the University of Helsinki. She has been working on Quantum Technology for over 20 years, focussing on noise in quantum devices, complex quantum systems and quantum simulations. She loves the mountains, the sea, her converted campervan Zag, and all food from her Mother Island, Sicily.

Guillermo García-Pérez

CSO and co-founder

Guillermo holds a PhD from the Univ. of Barcelona and did postdoctoral research at the Univ. of Turku and the Univ. of Helsinki. He co-founded Algorithmiq in 2020, where he has worked as CSO since then. He is interested in quantum information and network theory and enjoys spending time outdoors with his dogs, Lyra and Megan.

Matteo Rossi

CTO and co-founder

Matteo holds a PhD in Quantum Physics from the University of Milan and did postdoctoral research at University of Turku and Aalto University (Finland). He is interested in quantum simulation, computation and metrology and loves programming (classical and quantum) computers. He also plays the guitar and likes travelling.

Boris holds a degree in Electronics and a PhD from the University of Turku on the topic of open quantum systems, special relativity and complex systems. His other interests include quantum computing and machine learning. He enjoys nature, cycling and windsurfing.

Jussi Westergren

Lead Complex Systems Researcher
and co-founder

Jussi studied mathematics, physics and fine arts at McGill and the Univ. of Helsinki. He received his PhD from the Univ. of Oxford. In addition to his research on the scope and limitations of modeling nature, Jussi has played a key role in founding and advising several companies and institutions such as academia.edu, DeepMind, Intellectual Ventures, Turkana Basin Institute, the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences and the Emmy Network.

Zoltán Zimborás

Senior Researcher

Zoltán is the head of the Quantum Computing Group at the Wigner Research Centre. He received his PhD at Eötvös University and worked later at UCL and FU Berlin. His research at Algorithmiq focuses on both the theoretical aspects of variational quantum algorithms and their practical implementation. He is passionate about teaching chess to children, especially to his six-year-old daughter.

Mark Goldsmith

Lead AI Researcher

Mark received a joint Honours Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from McGill University in 2005, and went on to earn a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Concordia University. In 2016 he helped launch the Emmy Network, where he continues to conduct research on complex systems and machine learning. He is a father of two, a beatmaker, and tea snob.

Senior Researcher

Walt received his Ph.D. in Theoretical Physic from Univ. of Turku.  His research has focused on the development of scalable numerical approaches to study thermo-electric effects in correlated materials.  He joined Algorithmiq to design optimised software and algorithms for quantum computers.  He loves listening and playing music, exploring new places and making fancy cocktails.

Elsi-Mari Borrelli

Lead Quantum Biology Researcher

Elsi holds a PhD in Theoretical Physics and did postdoctoral research at Aalto Univ. and Univ. of Turku focusing on theoretical characterization of quantum noise. She has also worked in industrial research on topics ranging from advanced analytics and prognostics for electrical devices to human-robot interfaces. She loves all kinds of sports, nature, good food and sauna.

Stefan Knecht

Lead Quantum Chemist Researcher

Stefan is a Privatdozent at ETH Zürich where he received his venia legendi in theoretical chemistry in 2018. He got his PhD at the U Düsseldorf and did postdoctoral research at the U Strasbourg and the Univ. of Southern Denmark in Odense. He is interested in the chemistry of the heaviest elements and in multi-configurational electronic structure theory. He loves spending time with his family, playing tennis and running in nature.

Roberto Di Remigio Eikås

Lead Software Engineer

Roberto has a PhD in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry from the University of Tromsø. He did postdoctoral research on quantum Monte Carlo at Virginia Tech. For the past two years, he worked as research software engineer in the Swedish national competence centre, preparing quantum chemistry software for exascale machines. He likes software to be elegant, efficient, and robust. He has a black cat and collects records.

Daniel holds a PhD from the University of Barcelona/Institute of Photonic Sciences and has been working on quantum information for 15 years. His interests span quantum foundations, communication and and network science. He also has a master's degree in graphic design and is the director of the Bitflow studio. He loves playing the electric bass, hiking and coffee.

Senior Researcher

Joona has completed his M. Sc. degree from Aalto University in 2013 on Cognitive Technology and product development and is currently finalizing his Ph.D. in Computer Science on proliferating innovations from fundamental research. He has been working on related projects for the past decade with Emmy Network, CERN, IBM, Nokia and Elisa.

Sergei holds a PhD in Theoretical Physics from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. He did postdoctoral research at Research Center for Quantum Information (Bratislava) and Russian Quantum Center (Skolkovo), was a head of Laboratory of Quantum Information Theory and an Associate Professor at MIPT , and worked at Steklov Mathematical Institute RAS. He is interested in quantum tensor networks and dynamical maps. His hobbies are jogging, hiking, and reading.

Caterina got her PhD in quantum foundations from the University of Florence. In addition to post-doctoral research in Florence and Helsinki at Aalto University, she taught in high schools and American universities. She is in love with the quantum world and passionate about innovative education and outreach. She always looks on the bright side and is a theatre actress.

Adam holds PhD in Computer Science in ITAI PAS and is a member of the QWorld Association. His main interest is NISQ-era quantum optimization, including effective representations of problems into a quantum computer. He can make a sound out of double bass, hopes NP is not in P and owns two cats, none called Schrödinger.

Marco Cattaneo

Quantum Information Researcher 

Marco got his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Milan, and he is currently completing a joint Ph.D. at the University of Helsinki and IFISC (University of the Balearic Islands). His main scientific interests are the foundations of quantum and statistical mechanics, open quantum systems, and quantum simulation. Marco is a tournament chess player and loves world cinema and mountaineering.

An optimistic possibilist, he loves cooking, good food, and everything related to nature, especially hiking.

Anton is doing an industrial PhD at the University of Helsinki with Algorithmiq. He completed a Master’s degree in theoretical physics at the University of Turku. His academic interests range from quantum computing to emergent phenomena from quantum entanglement. His free time is filled with climbing, playing various wind instruments, board games, reading and spontaneous activities.

Junior Researcher

Joonas graduated from University of Turku with a Master’s degree in Theoretical Physics. He’s currently doing an industrial PhD with Algorithmiq and University of Helsinki because of his interests in quantum computing and working at the forefront of industry. On his off-time Joonas enjoys rock climbing, hiking, and playing the guitar and trumpet. He dreams of one day playing a carnyx.

Keijo Korhonen

Junior Researcher

Keijo obtained his MSc in theoretical and computational methods at the University of Helsinki and is now doing an industrial PhD there together with Algorithmiq. His research focuses on measurements in quantum algorithms for near-term quantum computing. Keijo maintains his Finnish, Japanese and Swiss roots and loves badminton, bouldering and playing the piano.

Matea has a bachelors degree from University College Dublin in Applied and Computational Mathematics. From here she fell in love with foundations of quantum mechanics and moved to do a masters with Trinity College Dublin in Quantum Science and Technology where she is now pursuing her PHD in Quantum error mitigation methods and simulations, where her particular interests also lie in quantum tensor networks. Her Hobbies include playing basketball, being in nature and finding great food and coffee.

Harto is about to finish his PhD at University of Turku in stochastics. His main research interests are mathematical modelling, optimal control and binary classification. He is eager to further expand his skill set in all mathematical subjects. He also loves playing padel, tennis and board games.

Badminton addicted, frequent hi-fiver, Rosario is a down-to-earth person because, you know, gravity.
