Open position – Junior Software Engineer

We are hiring a Junior Software Engineer. If you have a strong interest in quantum computing and are eager to develop products with the potential to save lives and solve previously intractable problems, we encourage you to apply. Join a team of exceptional professionals working to advance the healthcare and life sciences (HCLS) sector and drive innovation in the quantum computing field.

About us

We are a global, VC-backed Series A start-up bringing together an international (with over 20 different nationalities!), multidisciplinary, and collaborative team. Our Digital Quantum Interface provides highly optimized software modules that can increase efficiency and accuracy of the quantum computing pipeline by orders of magnitude. We are on track to be the first company in the world to achieve quantum utility for industrially relevant use cases in life sciences.

We have created a culture we love and are proud of. We’re a hard-working bunch with a friendly, close-knit, and transparent environment where trust underpins everything that we do. As we scale our business, we’re focused on keeping this culture and our values at the heart of how we make decisions.

What we do

At Algorithmiq, we develop unique quantum software that makes quantum computers useful, enabling them to solve real-world problems. Our software provides powerful solutions to computationally demanding problems for many industries. We see the biggest impact in healthcare and life sciences, where we are driving breakthroughs such as faster, more affordable drug discovery to improve lives.

Our recent successes include running the largest error mitigation experiment to date on IBM hardware (91 active qubits by 91 layers, arXiv:2411.00765) and commercially launching our most powerful error mitigation algorithm (TEM) on IBM’s Qiskit Functions Catalog. In parallel, we have successfully completed the second phase of the q4bio Wellcome Leap program in partnership with Cleveland Clinic & IBM for the development of photo-activated cancer drugs using our state-of-the-art breakthrough quantum chemistry product, Aurora.

In the coming year, we will be releasing more software products that will empower the routine use of the combined computational power of quantum and classical computers together.

Who are we looking for?

As Junior Software Engineer at Algorithmiq, you will work in the software team with a focus on developing products for the efficient and accurate use of today’s quantum computers for enhanced drug discovery pipelines and other life science tasks. You will be part of a growing team of software engineers developing cutting-edge products for solving the hardest problems in quantum computing.

This is a very exciting area and demands innovative solutions. We are looking for candidates with outstanding problem-solving skills and eagerness to grow their software development toolbox. This role suits computer engineers/scientists/physicists/chemists with a proven ability to develop software. You should apply if you are keen to create products that can have an immediate impact on near-term quantum computing. We are looking for someone who can turn their hand to a range of software development problems and is not afraid to push their boundaries to learn professional software development within an ever-evolving field.

What you’ll be doing

• Build and develop cutting-edge software products in a novel, highly technical field.
• Apply software engineering practices to ensure that our products provide the best-in-class performance and functionality.
• Work closely with R&D teams to turn new ideas and discoveries into powerful products.
• Participate in internal code reviews and pair programming.
• Gain first-hand experience in applying today’s quantum computing devices to useful problems.
• Interface with customers to improve their pipelines with our products.

Experience with the Python programming language (>1yrs)
Experience with version control (Git) and collaborative development platforms like GitHub (>1yrs)
Familiarity with the Python library ecosystem for scientific computations, e.g. NumPy.
Familiarity with software development best-practices (testing, code review, documentation).

Beneficial if you have

Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field, e.g., physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science
Familiarity with software stacks for quantum computers (e.g. qiskit, cirq, pennylane)
Familiarity with high-performance computing environments.
Knowledge of C++ or other low-level programming language.
Familiarity with development automation through CI pipelines.
